WhatsApp has added another brand-new feature in its bid to fight the spread of misinformation.
The new feature will focus on forwarded messages and will allow users to fact-check the information sent in such messages.
WhatsApp ssers will be presented with a magnifying glass symbol on forwarded messages, which will open a Google search query for the information sent in the message. The Google search will be able to verify whether or not the information is true.
In a blog post, WhatsApp wrote the content of the message won’t be revealed to WhatsApp, but will instead upload the message via the user’s browser.
The feature – named ‘search the web’ – is currently being rolled out in Brazil, Italy, Ireland, Mexico, Spain, UK, and the U.S on Android, iOS, and WhatsApp Web.
It comes after many WhatsApp users have received false coronavirus-related viral messages in recent months.
Back in April, WhatsApp introduced another feature which limited the number of times messages could be forwarded to tackle misinformation on the app.
