2021 has been Wizkid’s year. Last month, the artist’s critical acclaim was strengthened by his Apple Music Award – declaring him the Artist of the Year (Africa). It topped off a stream of milestones, from smashing the Billboard Charts to winning a Grammy.
Now, the full interview for that award has been released, offering an insight into the world of Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, whom we have come to know professionally as Wizkid.
Whilst the interview touches on the greatness of his music, Wizkid remains humbled and reserved, regarding his career as “just doing what I have to do”. The Nigerian musician casually recollects on the insane waves that his talent has produced, with emphasis on his huge, fourth album Made In Lagos.
Made In Lagos allowed Wizkid to showcase his talent, in an intricate fusion of R&B, pop and Afrobeats. The completed album in turn served as a reminder of how sought after he is as a performer. It’s no wonder Wizkid’s London O2 show sold out in an insane 12 minutes.
