A 25-year old woman has given birth to nine babies – two more than doctors had detected in scans.
Halima Cisse – who is from Mali – gave birth to the nonuplets at a hospital in Morocco yesterday (May 4) after being flown there for specialist care in March.
Halima has become a mum to five girls and four boys and all are said to be “doing well”. All were delivered by caesarean section.
Halima’s pregnancy fascinated many in Mali and many doctors in the West African nation had been concerned for her welfare and the chances of the babies’ survival
However, Mali’s health minister – Fanta Siby – confirmed “the newborns and the mother are all doing well” and added that it will be a several weeks until they can go home.
