Humanoid robots from around the world gathered at an artificial intelligence summit in Geneva to address the issue of their role in society.

In what was hailed as the “world’s first human-robot press conference”, it was held for the robots to express their intentions and opinions.

Ameca, a hyper-realistic humanoid robot head, was asked about whether it intended to rebel against humanity, retorting, “I’m not sure why you would think that. My creator has been nothing but kind to me and I am very happy with my current situation.”

Sophia, another one of the robots, emphasised the potential for human-robot synergy, stating, “AI can provide unbiased data while humans can provide the emotional intelligence and creativity to make the best decisions. Together, we can achieve great things.”

A medical robot dubbed Grace also had similar opinions, that robots could work together with humans rather than replacing them, adding that “[AI robots] will not be replacing any existing jobs”.

Differing views emerged when the topic of regulating AI arose however. Ai-Da, a robot artist, advocated for cautious development and urgent discussions, while Desdemona, a robot rock star, saw limitless opportunities in the expansion of AI.

These discussions took place at the UN’s AI for Good conference, which aimed to explore the application of AI and robots to address global challenges.

While some technical glitches were evident, the robots conveyed their desire to work alongside humans, improve lives and dispelled concerns of rebellion.
