Russian engineer Vlad Zaitsev cut his hand open and surgically ‘installed’ the microchip from his Oyster card into his hand.
He says the self-sewn scar is worth it and he hasn’t suffered any problems so far – with his hand that is. But, unfortunately his weird idea didn’t go completely as planned, as some readers on the Moscow Metro don’t pick up the chip. Deep.
He said: “It is the perfect solution to not have to worry about losing an expensive season ticket.
“But not all of the scanners seem to have a very strong signal to read the Troika card, and they don’t always manage to read the chip.
“The main thing was that I wanted to know what it felt like to have a chip under the skin, it actually opens up a whole range of possibilities and I think anybody else that tries it will quickly see what I mean.”
Well, at least he didn’t put the whole card in.
