Yorkshire Tea and PG Tips – two of the biggest tea brands – have united under the ‘solidaritea’ hashtag to show their support for the Black Lives Matter movement.
Until today, both companies had not spoken on the recent protests regarding racism, injustice and inequality, leading one far-right wing vlogger to tweet: “I’m dead chuffed that Yorkshire Tea hasn’t supported BLM.”
However, Yorkshire Tea were quick to point out that they were in fact in support of BLM, asking the user to never buy their tea again.
“Please don’t buy our tea again. We’re taking some time to educate ourselves and plan proper action before we post. We stand against racism,” the official Yorkshire Tea twitter account replied.
Following tweets from far-right Twitter users calling for a boycott of Yorkshire Tea, PG Tips also showed their support for the BLM movement, replying to one user: ““If you are boycotting teas that stand against racism, you’re going to have to find two new brands now #blacklivesmatter #solidaritea”.
The #solidaritea pun has been applauded by many, with some calling it the most British hashtag ever.
