Love Island star Zara McDermott has landed herself in hot water after being caught on camera using the n-word.

McDermott is shown in an Instagram video posted by her co-star boyfriend Adam Collard rapping along to Chris Brown’s 2011 single “Look At Me Now”.

In the recently deleted video captioned “Baaaaaaarrrrrss” posted to Adam’s account with over 853,000 followers, Zara drives her car and laughs as she joins in with Chris Brown’s second verse where he raps, “Lil n**** bigger than gorilla, cause I’m killing every n**** that try to be on my s***”.

Social media users were not impressed and both Zara and Adam have seen their Instagram comments flooded with anger from the public.

Zara allegedly responded initially to the controversy in a comment to one angry fan writing, ”it’s a song omg”.

The 2018 Love Island contestant has recently apologised for the video. She said in a statement, “I am sorry that I offended anyone…it wasn’t aimed at anyone, it was lyrics to a song that has been in the public domain for years”. The 21-year-old who worked for the government as a policy advisor for the Department of Education before her Love Island fame added, “It just upsets me that people would ever think I was being intentionally nasty or ignorant because I wasn’t”.

Zara has returned to business as usual since the controversy and posted today on her Instagram that she enjoyed a radio interview this morning.

Zara was dumped from the Love Island villa in June after a short stay. She joined the original cast and had her sights set on Adam who previously attempted to couple up with Kendall and Rosie.  Zara and Adam’s romance was cut short when she was booted off the show, however, they have resumed their romance outside of the villa.
