Six months after the tragic murder of Coke Boyz member Chinx, the case still remains unsolved and the rapper’s murderer is still at-large. This week, Fox 5 aired a report by Lisa Evers, who hosts Hot 97’s “Street Soldiers” show, that says there is a growing concern that the murder will remain unsolved for ever. The report also said that the wounded passenger in Chinx’s car, Coke Boys affiliate Yemen, originally cooperated with police in the investigation but is no longer helping.

Chinx was murdered during the early morning hours of Sunday, May 17th in the Briarwood section of Queens.  As he was going to drop off Yemen, a shooter unloaded over ten shots into the car, killing Chinx and injuring Yemen. The event sent shockwaves through the hip-hop community, especially since Chinx had a close relationship with French Montana and had featured on the remix of Krept & Konan’s “Don’t Waste My Time (Remix)“. Chinx’s ‘Welcome to JFK’ album posthumously dropped in August.

The news comes as no surprise as american magazine XXL reported in October that around 68% of rapper’s murders have gone on unsolved. In a study of 52 homicides, beginning with the murder of Boogie Down Production’s Scott La Rock in 1987 and including the likes of Jam Master Jay, Tupac Shakur and Big L, 36 cases have remain unsolved. It was also reported that rap homicides are more than twice as likely to go unsolved as “normal” homicides. In 2015 alone, five rappers have been killed in major cities across the country and no charges have been filed in any of the five cases.
