Fortnite has now been banned in Iraq.

The online survival multiplayer video game created by Epic Games that is available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as well as mobile devices, is now illegal to play in the country for the following reason, “due to the negative effects caused by some electronic games on the health, culture, and security of Iraqi society, including societal and moral threats to children and youth.” The Iraqi government will also ban the battle royale game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds for the same reason.

Iraq now joins China as the latest country to impose restrictions and bans on this video game.

This comes after Prince Harry’s latest statement which criticised the video game whilst at a YMCA event in West London. Prince Harry said, “That game shouldn’t be allowed. Where is the benefit of having it in your household? It’s created to addict, an addiction to keep you in front of a computer for as long as possible. It’s so irresponsible. It’s like waiting for the damage to be done and kids turning up on your doorsteps and families being broken down.”

Prince Harry’s critique ignited debate and many considered if this would lead to a UK ban on Fortnite and similar games. This latest ban in Iraq proves that this is not impossible.
