During an interview for GQ’s latest cover story, Kanye West has revealed that he used an iPhone to record around 20% of his most recent album, Jesus Is King.
Despite having impressive studio setups in most of his workspaces, the rapper chooses to take advantage of the ability to quickly record ideas onto his iPhone.
Kanye explained: “I just rap into my iPhone. Best microphone on the planet.” He added: “Thirty, forty per cent of The College Dropout was recorded on a VS-1680. Twenty per cent of Jesus Is King was recorded on an iPhone.
He seemed to confirm that some of the actual vocals featured on the album were taken directly from the iPhone’s Voice Memo app as he cited his lyric “Like ‘closed on Sunday, you’re my Chick-fil-A’ – that part is off the phone.”
