Rumours regarding the upcoming PlayStation 5 have been circling around for a while but now, we have received official information regarding the release schedule for the console.

The next generation console from PlayStation is due for release in time for Christmas 2020.

The news was broken on the PlayStation blog in a post by Jim Ryan, the President of Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe.

“Since we originally unveiled our next-generation console in April, we know that there’s been a lot of excitement and interest in hearing more about what the future of games will bring”, Ryan wrote.

“Today I’m proud to share that our next-generation console will be called PlayStation 5, and we’ll be launching in time for Holiday 2020.”

Jim Ryan also provided details about the controller for the PS5, explaining designers have worked to “reimagine how the sense of touch can add to that immersion.”

The confirmed details for the PlayStation 5 follow rumours that the console will be released alongside another console, the PlayStation Pro.
