Spider-Man may not appear in future MCU films after Sony and Disney have failed to reach agreement on the character’s future.

Sony own the rights to the Spider-Man character but because of a deal between Sony and Marvel Studios – owned by Disney – the superhero was able to feature in films such as Avengers: Endgame.

However, after Disney requested a larger stake in Spider-Man films, the two companies have decided to part ways and such appearances from Spidey may not happen again.

It has also been reported that a deal couldn’t be reached because Disney wanted Kevin Fiege, Marvel’s President who played a massive role in integrating Spider-Man into Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), to scale back on his involvement in the Spider-Man films.

In a statement regarding the split, Sony said: “Much of today’s news about Spider-Man has mischaracterized recent discussions about Kevin Fiege’s involvement in the franchise.

“We are disappointed, but respect Disney’s decision not to have him continue as a lead producer of our next live action Spider-Man film.”

The spokesperson for Sony also said they “hope this will change in the future” but at present, Spider-Man will not feature in upcoming MCU films.

According to reports, Sony have plans to release two live-action Spider-Man films but because of the new news, Tom Holland may not return to star as the character in the future.

Fans of Marvel haven’t taken lightly to the news, as #BoycottSony is currently trending on Twitter and a petition has been launched to keep Spider-Man in the MCU.
