What’s great about the young and developing scene we have in London (and beyond), is the sheer diversity of it. It seems every day a new artist is coming to our attention, sounding new and innovative and original, yet still so distinctly British. Artists are getting weird and artists are getting experimental, and it’s due time we started highlighting some of these creatives that may otherwise slip under our radar. With that being said, welcome backto Go Left; GRM’s guide to alternative grime, hip-hop and R&B, the best of what you may not have heard yet.

This week we’ve got somewhat of an instrumental grime special going on, with a handful of incredible reworks. There’s a mash up of AJ Tracey’s “The Lane” and a reworked grime version of Dr Dre’s “Xxplosive”, from 18 year old Manchester producer Harry Rodger, which absolutely bangs.

Kliko is another producer with a track on this week’s playlist, as he recently released another riddim online. “into u” is an emotive, dreamy instrumental with a pitched up sample and a Skepta accapella, which we just couldn’t get enough of at Go Left. There’s also a hilarious (and lowkey cold?) remix from Rebello, which needs no further explanation other than it’s title; “Boris, You’re A Wasteman”.

Hip-hop gets a good rep too, when the playlist smooths into the beautifully melancholic “Out Of My Way”, from 4i and Kieran Booth, before things turn up with one of Badside’s latest EP’s tracks “S.U.I.T.7.”. Members of the crew – namely Argz Aliko, EllzBS, Gray and Proton – all bring their individual sounds to the head-nodding beat.

We will be uploading more alternative videos onto our YouTube channel. If you fit in with those who don’t fit in, are part of the Go Left gang and have something wavy for us, send an email to [email protected]
