What’s great about the young and developing scene we have in London (and beyond), is the sheer diversity of it. It seems every day a new artist is coming to our attention, sounding new and innovative and original, yet still so distinctly British.
Artists are getting weird and artists are getting experimental, and it’s due time we started highlighting some of these creatives that may otherwise slip under our radar. With that being said, welcome back to Go Left; GRM’s guide to alternative grime, hip-hop and R&B, the best of what you may not have heard yet.
This week on Go Left, we take a majorly dark, sinister and poignant detour in stark contrast to our playlist two weeks ago. That being said, the first track, “Call Back” by R&B artist SAZ featuring Airborn Gav, is easily the least ominous in terms of its indie instrumentals, with angelic guitar chords running throughout.
Gaika and Kojey Radical, on the other hand, produce the most brash and eerie track on the list with “Loose Residuals”, whilst London rapper Flowzart shows us why his name is justified on the Auto-Tune-infused “Oh No, Oh Yeah”. Rapper Hydro also makes the list with “Gucci” featuring Reppatwa, both shining on a ditsy beat.
Finally, Birmingham-based collective BRM, founded by Lauren Ralph, come through with a mellow and mysterious “Flights” which highlights the group’s lyrical prowess.
