Edward Enninful OBE, the editor-in-chief of British Vogue, has been named the UK’s most influential black person by the Powerlist 2024, an annual list celebrating individuals of African, African Caribbean, and African American heritage.

The list, now in its 18th year, recognises black role models and influential figures for young people.

Other notable figures on the Powerlist 2024 include Afua Kyei, the chief financial officer of the Bank of England and Steven Bartlett, a Dragon’s Den star and podcaster.

Edward Enninful, who is the first black man to hold the top position at British Vogue, has announced his departure earlier this year to help grow the brand globally and focus on other projects. He also serves as the European editorial director of Condé Nast.

Born in Ghana, Enninful moved to London at a young age and started his editorial career as a fashion director of the British youth culture magazine i-D at the age of 18, making him the youngest person to be named an editor at a major international fashion title.

The Powerlist recognises individuals from various sectors, including business, science, technology, and the arts. Other prominent figures featured in the 2024 list include Lord Woolley of Woodford, co-founder of Operation Black Vote and principal at Cambridge University’s Homerton College, model and activist Munroe Bergdorf, comedian Mo Gilligan and entrepreneur Patricia Bright.
