It’s a sad day for all of us as it’s been announced that the last ever episode of the much-loved Arthur cartoon will air next year.

The show – which is the longest-running animated children’s series in American history – premiered in 1996 and follows aardvark Arthur and his and friends as they navigate through childhood.

Since its emergence in the mid 90s, the show and its catchy theme song has proved popular with kids from different generations but it’s due to come to an end next year Caron Greenwald, Executive Producer of Arthur, has now revealed.

“In the winter of 2022, the 25th and final season of Arthur will debut,” Greenwald confirmed to IGN. “Arthur will continue to be available on PBS KIDS for years to come.

“Producer GBH and PBS KIDS are continuing to work together on additional Arthur content, sharing the lessons of Arthur and his friends in new ways.”

The show may be finishing next year but all the memes it’s given us – such as Arthur’s infamous clenching fist – will last forever.
