OnlyFans has done a U-turn on its controversial decision to ban sexually explicit content.

The content subscription service released a statement today confirming that it has “suspended” its plans to prohibit the posting of sexually explicit content on the platform.

“Thank you to everyone for making your voices heard,” the company wrote on Twitter. “We have secured assurances necessary to support our diverse creator community and have suspended the planned October 1 policy change.

“OnlyFans stands for inclusion and we will continue to provide a home for all creators.”

The U-turn comes less than a week after OnlyFans announced its plans to ban sexually explicit content to “to comply with the requests of [their] banking partners and payout providers”.\

The announcement received backlash from individuals who were concerned about the implications the policy would have on sex workers.

“This change will put workers on the street who could otherwise afford rent,” Mary Moody, an online sex worker and co-chair of the Adult Industry Laborers and Artists Association, told the Guardian last week.

“It will starve the children of sex workers who could otherwise afford to feed them, and it will force workers currently working remotely online into riskier street-based sex work.”

However, it looks like OnlyFans have listened to the feedback and have reversed its plans to launch the policy.
