The crate challenge has taken the internet by storm over the last few weeks but now TikTok has decided to ban the trend over safety concerns.
The viral crate challenge trend sees willing daredevils attempt to walk across a wobbly obstacle course made from crates and in videos posted from around the world, many participants fall from a substantial height as they attempt the challenge.
Because of the risks, TikTok has decided to delete all search results for the now-viral #milkcratechallenge and #cratechallenge trends.
In a statement, a spokesperson for TikTok said, “TikTok prohibits content that promotes or glorifies dangerous acts, and we remove videos and redirect searches to our Community Guidelines to discourage such content.
“We encourage everyone to exercise caution in their behaviour whether online or off.”
Doctors have spoken to the media to warn against the trend.
Shawn Anthony, an orthopaedic surgeon at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York told the Washington Post, “It’s perhaps even worse than falling from a ladder.
“It’s very difficult to brace yourself from the falls I’ve seen in these videos. They’re putting their joints at an even higher risk for injury.”
In other TikTok news, Taylor Swift sent social media users into a frenzy after she posted her first-ever video to the platform which was soundtracked by rapper Dave’s track “Screwface Capital”.
