To shine a light on some of the finest Black musicians in Liverpool right now, a new compilation tape has been released!
Ten years ago, the largest collaboration between Merseyside-based Black music creators was established as part of a University of Liverpool mapping project and included a short album and a showcase event.
However, a decade on, many of the artists and creators have had to stop making music due to a lack of opportunities in the region.
Now as part of On Record Festival’s 2021 initiative – which is a celebration and exploration of Black music in Merseyside – the project has been resurrected in the form of Liverpool One Project: Take Two featuring the next generation of Black musicians from Liverpool!
From hip-hop and drill to R&B and jazz, this 8-track project is a diverse body of work featuring talent from a range of different musical backgrounds.
Among those on the tape are: KOJ, P3LZ, OzMob, Philly D, 5th Deep, Dayzy, Shak Omar, Remee, Jeopardy, Sub Blue, Gully Man Dred, MC Nelson, Neil Noa, Dayzy, Ni Maxine, PaisleighB, Liam Adams, Nak, Ty Lewis and Jamie Broad. Production comes courtesy of KOF, Olabean, FourThirteen and Big O.
The release of the tape has also been accompanied by a short documentary displaying the creation of the project.
