Police have declared yesterday’s explosion at Liverpool Women’s Hospital a terrorist incident.

On Remembrance Sunday yesterday (November 14), a taxi exploded just before 11:00 GMT at a drop-off zone near the hospital in Liverpool. The driver, named locally as David Perry, survived and has been discharged from hospital but the passenger died.

Police believe the passenger took an “improvised explosive” into the vehicle which exploded as the taxi arrived outside the reception of Liverpool Women’s Hospital.

Four men have been arrested in the city in connection with the incident.

Assistant Chief Constable Russ Jackson, from Counter-terrorism Policing North West, told a press conference the investigation is “continuing at pace”.
