SBTV Founder Jamal Edwards has selected No Signal radio as the first recipient of Ballantine’s True Music Fund – an initiative supporting grassroots organisations working to achieve diversity and inclusion in music culture.

The True Music Fund is part of Scotch whisky brand Ballantine’s program to help increase equality in music culture, with £100,000 being used to support collectives and artists promoting equality within their scene – such as No Signal.

Since being launched in response to the UK’s first lockdown last year, No Signal has continued to showcase music across the Black diaspora via radio 15 hours a day, 7 days a week, attracting thousands of listeners from 166 countries in the process.

Earlier this year, the radio launched No Signal Academy – a 12-week mentoring program for young Black creatives covering key elements of the music industry including social media, marketing, radio and graphic design.

“No Signal is a Black-led radio station based in London broadcasting Black culture across the world,” Jamal Edwards said. “This money will help support the work they do and to ensure that they continue to give great opportunities like this.”

No Signal plan to use the £10,000 provided by Ballentine’s True Music Fund to revamp their studio and make improvements to their recording process and guest roster.
