A former Eggheads panellist CJ de Mooi has appeared in court due to alleged involvement in up to 12 murders which date as far back as 1988. According to Scotland Yard the 46 year old was arrested at Heathrow airport at 11:30pm on Wednesday 21st September.

The former BBC quiz show panelist appeared in Westministers Magistrates court in regards to 12 cases that relate to Murder, manslaughter, assault and battery in Amsterdam dating back to 1988.

CJ de Mooi (who’s real name is
Joseph Connagh) allegedly wrote an autobiography which made claims of possibly killing a drug addict. Prosecutor Brian Gibbins said, “It appears the defendant, a TV personality, wrote an autobiography. Whilst living in Amsterdam in 1988 he may have killed a drug addict who was attempting to mug him by punching him and throwing him into a canal in Amsterdam.”

Dutch authorities first issued a warrant back in May to question CJ and are requesting that he be extradited to the Netherlands for the questioning.

A spokesperson from the Dutch authorities revealed that although there are no specific victims, each year the authorities find warped corpses in the Amsterdam canals.
It appears at this point that there isn’t much solid evidence linking CJ to the murders.

CJ’s lawyer Chris Stevens said, “There doesn’t appear to be a named victim in the warrant, date of birth or even an address where this matter took place.”

This isn’t a case that we would expect from a former Eggheads panelist. Whilst CJ has not yet been charged with anything at this point, we are sure he is regretting writing that autobiography.
