After a flurry of singles, Manchester songbird Pip Millett has returned with her anticipated debut album, When Everything Is Better, I’ll Let You Know.
Housing a robust 17-track offering, the album features production from the likes of y/siR, Charlie J Perry, Fred Cox and many more across the sprawling 47-minute project.
Highlights include the previously-released, neo-soul-driven “Ride With Me”, the drill-n-B detour “I Know”, as well as the emotionally reflective “Smoking”.
Musically, the album is reminiscent of Amy Winehouse’s genre-bending Frank and Jill Scott’s R&B-focused Who Is Jill Scott? with a unique, future-proof approach to lyrical topics and beat selection.
Mid-record highlight “Happy No More” is also worthy of mention. With almost spoken word-like verses and jazz-licked quirks — the track bathes in vintage soul conventions with its cloudy drums and honey-glazed synth work.
When Everything Is Better, I’ll Let You Know follows the Stockport star’s 2021 EP Motion Sick and precedes her upcoming tour, which kicks off later this month.
