What’s great about the young and developing scene we have in London (and beyond), is the sheer diversity of it. It seems every day a new artist is coming to our attention, sounding new and innovative and original, yet still so distinctly British.

Artists are getting weird and artists are getting experimental, and it’s due time we started highlighting some of these creatives that may otherwise slip under our radar. With that being said, welcome back to Go Left; GRM’s guide to alternative grime, hip-hop and R&B, the best of what you may not have heard yet.

We open this week’s Go Left with a new track from Irish rapper Rejjie Snow called “Pink Beetle”, which was selected as Annie Mac’s “Hottest Record In The World”. Produced by Rhaki, Snow showcases tight verses about women, alcohol and all these biting rappers.

London-based rapper New World Ray achieves his Go Left debut with new single “Nina” from his upcoming album Love Physical.  The bass-heavy banger features KA$H, The Section and Yiiga, in which Ray declares he might have to pull out his “nina” if he experiences suspect activity.

In contrast, Hudson East’s “Call Me” is a tropical R&B hit produced by ESTA. East makes the Go Left playlist for the second consecutive week – I urged him last week to continue producing slappers, he’s certainly taken my advice into consideration…

Up next is South East London rapper Drew Bakes with “Misery’s Company”; Bakes states his desire for sexual therapy in times of stress over a mysterious, dizzying instrumental.

Finally, we fade out with “leave a.space” by UK hip hop group Nutribe. The track is rather nostalgic, reminiscent of classic 80s boom-bap hip hop and flows, with cheeky keyboard chords zipping throughout.

We will be uploading more alternative videos onto our YouTube channel. If you fit in with those who don’t fit in, are part of the Go Left gang and have something wavy for us, send an email to [email protected]
