In a world-first, the country of France is set to introduce the concept of a “porn passport”, to internet users across their nation.
They’re being introduced as an alternative to the current age verification system to watch pornography, which simply includes ticking a box saying they’re over 18 years of age.
These new measures are being rolled out to tackle the exposure of porn to young people and how easily accessible it it.
Jean-Noel Barrot, the Digital Minister in France, said, “I intend to put an end to this scandal. In 2023, it is the end of access to pornography websites for our children. I intend to uphold the law once and for all.”
The new measures will involve viewers installing a government mandated phone application, that would provide them with a digital verification code that proves their age.
Whilst this new “porn passport” is only set to be rolled out in France, England could soon follow suit, having already imposed a similar idea that was scrapped in 2019.
