A former Premier League player has been banned from driving for two years after crashing his Land Rover through the front of a Co-Op village store in Teesside.
The 37-year-old, who had a reading of 230mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood, was over three times the legal limit.
CCTV footage of the incident has been released, with the man in question being revealed as ex-Watford, Sunderland and Swansea player, Danny Graham.
Graham had been drinking with a friend after playing golf and was intending to get a taxi home. He admitted a single charge of drink-driving and was warned by the chairman of the bench, Nigel Guerin, that as a well-known person, people would report him to the police if they saw him behind the wheel again.
Graham, who also spent time on loan at Wolves and Hull, cannot remember the crash, which caused £5k in stock damage and £32k in total.
However, he expressed deep remorse for his actions and handed over character references to magistrates.
His defense lawyer, Choi Cheng, said Graham had never been arrested before and was of good character, saying, “Mr Graham, due to this unwise incident, experienced many things which he would never, ever, want to experience again. The offence dates back to November and he has had this worry hanging over his head for five months.”
