Stormzy has long proven he’s one of the brightest talents in the scene and beyond, but it seems he’s now set on continuing to expand his business portfolio too.
He’s reportedly teaming up with Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha, with the pair edging closer to making a shock move to acquire a football club.
Non-League team AFC Croydon Athletic currently competes in the Combined Counties League Premier South Division, which is the fifth tier of English football.
Zaha, Stormzy and Danny Young, the former head of player care at Palace, have exchanged contacts with the current owners, according to a statement released by the club.
While the completion of the deal is subject to regulatory procedures, the consortium expressed their excitement about owning and developing their hometown football club, aiming to involve the community in this endeavour.
Wilf and Stormzy have been close friends for years, both having grown up in Croydon. Zaha’s future at Palace remains uncertain, as he is yet to sign a new contract with the club and is set to become a free agent at the end of June.
Zaha already owns Espoir Club D’Abengourou in his native Ivory Coast and his interest in acquiring Croydon Athletic further demonstrates his desire to leave a lasting legacy.
The TikTok video of him and his partner exploring Mayfield Stadium, captioned “welcome to our new project,” hinted at his involvement with the club, although it was later deleted.
