A set of radical new plans from Labour have been revealed by The Guardian newspaper.

The Labour government plans to extend the right to equal pay, that currently exists for women to Black, Asian, and other ethnic minorities; it will also include disabled people too. What this will mean in practise is that, equal pay claims based on any of the aforementioned criteria, will be protected and upheld in the same way in which pay for women is.

Inequality has been on a consistent rise over the last ten years, and BAME families have been effected disproportionately by many of the modern day maladies such as the cost of living crisis, the global pandemic and the many cuts to the NHS and education systems.

Labour have been proposing a race equality act as far back as 2020, in which Doreen Lawrence (the mother of Stephen Lawrence) wrote a foreword to the report said: “This has been generations in the making. The impact of Covid is not random, but foreseeable and inevitable – the consequence of decades of structural injustice, inequality and discrimination that blights our society. We are in the middle of an avoidable crisis. And this report is a rallying cry to break that clear and tragic pattern.”
