BERWYN has unveiled his latest release, “I AM BLACK”, resonating as an anthemic proclamation intertwined with a somber reflection on the harsh realities faced by many in similar circumstances.
The track, born from a desire to instil positivity, delves into the artist’s poignant journey. Departing Trinidad aged nine, he encountered the stark contrast of Romford, London, where he and his grandmother stood as the sole black residents, facing hostility and prejudice. Expressing the song as one of his toughest creations, he recounts experiences of exclusion and confrontations with racism. Amidst chants of self-affirmation, “I AM BLACK” embodies defiance and lamentation, shedding light on the raw struggles within his community.
