Boy Better Know are known as the trailblazers of anti industry, independent music making.
Having experienced the major label scene and realising it wasn’t the way for them, Boy Better Know made the transition from rap crew to legit record label in the late noughties. JME’s Inetgrity and Skepta’s Konnichiwa, both releases on the label, just went certified silver and gold respectively. Since then artists such as Giggs and Stormzy have seen major chart success with independently released albums.
Now, the label is getting recognised alongside the majors. In the recently revealed nominations for the 2017 Music Week Awards, in association with Amazon Music, BBK is nominated for best Independent Record Company alongside the likes of Glassnote Records and Transgressive Records.
Being aligned next to all sorts of different genres is doing crazy things for legitimising the scene’s hard work and is another massive leap for grime.
The award ceremony takes place on April 5th, good luck to BBK from the GRM Daily team. Jheeez.
