Pornhub has just announced some major news which will change the porn industry drastically. The platforms performers will no longer be able to receive PayPal payments.
Away from PornHub’s free to access ad-supported videos is its lucrative monetised content which allows actors and performs to upload and sell their content via PornHub.
The performers would then receive all money made from their content via PayPal.
It was announced on Wednesday that PayPal have stopped this service and PornHub expressed their frustration at this via a blog post.
The adult entertainment giant said, “We are all devastated by PayPal’s decision to stop payouts to over a hundred thousand performers who rely on them for their livelihoods”.
In a statement, Paypal responded to the outrage over the change and said, “Following a review, we have discovered that Pornhub has made certain business payments through PayPal without seeking our permission. We have taken action to stop these transactions from occurring.”
Pornhub performers will now have to seek alternative methods of payment such as bank transfers and this news has been met with anger from those who use the money generated from porn to make a living.
As a large number of banks and payment services will not allow account holders to transfer in any money made from sex work, the dissolution of the relationship between Pornhub and PayPal may impact the availability of pornography if the industry begins to struggle financially.
