Just months after dropping his Malibu follow up album Oxnard, Anderson .Paak is back with his latest album, Ventura.
Many fans were left questioning Paaks Oxnard release. It felt so far from the music that he’d made previously and equally as far as the music the fans loved. Doing a 180, Paak has returned to his smooth groove self, bringing back his soothing soul funk.
Speaking to Beats 1’s Zane Lowe, Paak revealed that Oxnard and Ventura were created during the same period with Oxnard meant to be “gritty” whilst Ventura was made to be “pretty”. He explained that the two consecutive albums are meant to go hand in hand; “One is to play on your way to Vegas, and one you can play on your way back”. Two completely vibes that in turn, completely work together.
With features from André 3000, Smokey Robinson, Lalah Hathaway, Jazmine Sullivan, Sonya Elise, Brandy and Nate Dogg, the Dr Dre excessively produced album brings in influences from all corners.
