Rapper A$AP Rocky is reportedly set to acquire a significant stake in an established EFL club, according to sources.
The 36-year-old artist, who is in a relationship with pop icon Rihanna, is part of an investment group led by high-profile lawyer Joe Tacopina looking to take over the League Two club.
Tacopina, known for representing former President Donald Trump, has been in discussions with Tranmere Rovers for over six months. The proposed deal would see Tacopina’s group purchase an 80% stake in Tranmere for £15 million. The takeover is currently awaiting approval from the English Football League (EFL).
A source told The Sun’s Bizarre column that Rocky is closely involved with Tacopina and has committed to the bid. Once the deal is confirmed, the rapper is expected to attend games at Tranmere’s Prenton Park stadium. “Rocky has plans to go over after the deal is completed. We may even see Rihanna watching League Two football,” the source said.
There are also rumors of a documentary series similar to Welcome to Wrexham in development. The show could follow the transformation of Tranmere, much like the critically-acclaimed Disney+ series that chronicled Hollywood stars Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds’ journey with Wrexham.
Tacopina has previously owned Italian clubs Roma, Bologna and Venezia, and currently owns SPAL, a third-tier side.
