Blue Cards, which are to represent a Rugby style sin bin are being trialled in football. The blue cards seem to represent a middle ground between something thats more than a yellow, but not quite a red, and will result in a player being sent off for ten minutes.
Ifab (International Football association board), are responsible for the recommendations, and are part of a concerted effort to improve overall player behaviour at all levels of the game. Financial sanctions have already been introduced for players who consistently decide to break the rules, and the sin bin style blue cards looks to go further. Although the Blue cards have not been cleared for use in any top flight competitions, they could be trialled during the FA Cup next year.
The blue cards have attracted widespread criticism from UEFA presidents to premier league managers, many believe that it will be bad for the game overall.
