Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak are set to be fined by the Metropolitan Police for attending parties held in Downing Street and Whitehall during Covid restrictions.
No 10 confirmed the Prime Minister and the Chancellor have been informed by the Met Police that they will be given fixed penalty notices.
A Downing Street spokesman said: “The Prime Minister and Chancellor have today received notification that the Metropolitan police intend to issue them with fixed penalty notices.”
It comes as the Met investigate 12 events held in Downing Street and Whitehall which may have breached Covid restrictions in 2020 and 2021. More than 100 people were under investigation.
It is thought that Boris Johnson attended as many as six gatherings being investigated.
The fines for the Prime Minister and Chancellor follow news of the initial fines for 20 people last month. It’s expected more fixed penalty notices will follow.
