Chelsea FC have been banned from selling tickets for the foreseeable future due to sanctions imposed on their owner Roman Abramovich by the UK government.
Abramovich has had all his UK assets frozen, received a travel ban and is not allowed to process transactions with UK individuals or businesses. Chelsea can still operate under a special licence but the club cannot be sold.
Only season ticket holders will be able to go to games until further notice.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: “There can be no safe havens for those who have supported Putin’s vicious assault on Ukraine.
“Today’s sanctions are the latest step in the UK’s unwavering support for the Ukrainian people. We will be ruthless in pursuing those who enable the killing of civilians, destruction of hospitals and illegal occupation of sovereign allies.”
Abramovich has been sanctioned along with six of Russia’s wealthiest and most influential oligarchs with connections to Vladimir Putin’s regime.
