A new revelatory report from Bloomberg Economics, has stated that Cocaine is to soon become the countries’ number one export, overtaking other natural resources like oil. The projections predict that cocaine could become the number export before the year is out, and now has revenues that exceed the 18 billion dollar mark.
The production of cocaine has reached record highs in the past year, and just under two tonnes were produced, but obviously due to the fact that non state actors are the main beneficiaries of the sales of the drug, the boom has not effected the value of the Colombian currency. The new Colombian president is hoping to curb this with an approach differing from his predecessors by focusing on the drug barons, as opposed to the coca leaf farmers.
