In a surprising turn of events, Irish mixed martial artist Conor McGregor has hinted at the possibility of running for the presidency of Ireland in 2025.

McGregor took to social media to express his political aspirations while also criticising potential rivals for the position at Aras an Uachtarain, the official residence of the President.

The MMA fighter suggested that he would privately fund weekly votes to ensure accountability, emphasising that his presidency would be a collaborative effort with the people of Ireland.

McGregor’s posts on X/Twitter analysed the “potential competition,” where he mentioned former Irish government head Bertie Ahern, Enda Kenny and former Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams, albeit with incorrect ages.

In response to skepticism about his understanding of the nomination process, McGregor addressed concerns raised by People Before Profit Teachta Dála Paul Murphy. The MMA star clarified that he is aware of the requirements, stating that candidates must secure the nomination of 20 Oireachtas members or four local authorities to appear on the ballot.

Despite his political ambitions, McGregor’s declaration has been met with doubt, given his controversial history involving legal issues and public altercations.

Critics, including Murphy, question whether the MMA star is well-versed in the complexities of Irish politics.

As the speculation continues, McGregor’s potential entry into the political arena adds a new dimension to the upcoming presidential race in 2025.
