Davido offered a memorable show at the O2 Arena last night where he entertained his 20,000 guests for over three hours. The Nigerian singer was accompanied by an army of dancers, a breathtaking choir and a sublime band in delivering his special Timeless tour, as numerous special guests.
The legendary Angelique Kidjo blessed the stage to accompany Davido on his iconic “Na Money”, and also offered a moving rendition of her unifying anthem “Africa, One Of A Kind”. Along with her, other distinguished African voices graced the mic including Morravey, Logos Olori, Makydun, Kizz Daniel, and South Africa’s sensation Kamo Mphela.
Known for his lavish and opulent style, the Afrobeats superstar made an impressive entrance as he opened the show singing on a white, empty bed suspended from the ceiling, and slowly descended on stage to the sound of “Over Dem” accompanied by a live saxophone.
The show was a statement of Davido’s everlasting sound as he performed a mixture of songs that turned him into African music royalty – from singles that propelled his career over a decade ago, to other more recent hits and his Grammy nominated album Timeless which came out in March last year.
Davido didn’t limit his show to the main stage, and instead he chose to play a game of hide and seek with the crowd as he would dim the lights and appear amongst his fans in different places across the arena on three different occasions. The element of surprise was continuous and was carried out either by the Nigerian singer himself or his guests who kept the special performances coming over the span of three hours.
The production was simple, yet ingenious – a 24 hour Timeless Store throned in the middle of the stage, suggesting that Davido never runs out of ageless hits and fresh sounds, with the doors opening to welcome a new special guest. Numerous dancers, carefully planned choreographies, pyrotechnic displays and special effects completed the scene and offered a full bodied experience.
Davido’s Timeless tour night truly showcased his love for his fans and his dedication for his craft as he delivered an unforgettable three hour long performance and impeccable renditions of hits such as “Risky”, “Champion Sound”, “Precision” and “FIA”. The show ended on a high with last summer’s anthem “Unavailable”, smoke bombs and confetti cannons, allowing Davido to make an exit filtered with energy and excitement.
Last night was a statement of Davido’s legendary status and his Timeless music. Needless to say we can’t wait to see him in London again!
