We’ve all heard of freak and gruesome accidents occurring during training or while playing the beautiful game. However surely none quite as bizarre as losing an entire finger!
Well this is exactly what happened to unfortunate Finn Harps F.C player Kevin McHugh. He reports that the truly grisly injury happened during a training session in which he jumped over a fence and felt what he described as a “tug” on his wedding ring. When he looked back at his hand his finger had been ripped completely off.
As if that wasn’t bizarre enough he then drove himself to hospital but soon realised that something was missing. McHugh then called one of the other coaches and asked him “could you go back up and get my finger on top of the fence?”. Certainly not your average request!
Unfortunately attempts to reattach the finger have subsequently failed and with only three games of the season left Kevin McHugh intends to hang up his boots. We wish him a full recovery.
