George R.R Martin, the godfather of HBO’s megahit series Games of Thrones, is set to remain with the company for another five years, during which he will oversee five projects.

According to Variety, the contract is worth mid-eight figures.

Martin will executive produce all five projects: House of the Dragon, The Sea Snake, The Flea Bottom, an adaptation of his Tale of Dunk and Egg novella as well as another show based on Nymeria’s story.

All of them will be prequels of Games of Thrones and are currently in development.

So far, only the House of the Dragon series has received the green light and it is set to come out in 2022.

The series will tell the story of House Targaryen and the Targaryen civil war, also known as the “Dance of the Dragons”, which takes place hundreds of years prior to the events of Game of Thrones.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the House of the Dragon will be shot in the UK from this April.

George R.R Martin is also working on a handful of other projects.

Martin will executive produce an adaptation of his Wild Cards book series for Peacock and an adaptation of his short story In the Lost Lands which will star Milla Jovovich and Dave Bautista as main characters.

Furthermore, there is a sixth A Song of Ice and Fire novel in the works.

The author has been working on the project for the past 10 years, with 2020 being his most productive year so far.

George R.R Martin wrote in a blog: ” I wrote hundreds and hundreds of pages of THE WINDS OF WINTER in 2020. The best year I’ve had on WOW since I began it. I still have hundreds of more pages to write to bring the novel to a satisfactory conclusion. That’s what 2021 is for, I hope.”
