Introducing Finalist #2 – MoD
MoD, or Man of the Dream, possesses a quirky old school hip-hop vibe, which is an unknown entity on these shores. Influences come from the likes of Kanye West and London’s very own Sway. Obtaining co-signs from the likes of Fatman Scoop, the rapper is making all the right moves. Originally hailing from Birmingham, MoD moved to London for university, and has stuck around ever since.
Check out MoD’s interview below:
What does your name stand for and why?
“MoD stands for Man of the Dream. I came up with the name when I was younger, like 11. I thought of the initials first and then I was like ‘ah this has gotta mean something’ and it just came to me. It means having ownership of your dreams, you being the man of the dream.”
What’s your favourite guilty pleasure?
“That’s a good one. There’s an afrobeat artist called Daddy Lumba, he’s proper old school and his music is mad cheesy, but it just bangs.”
Who’s your biggest musical influence?
“I’m heavily influenced by Kanye West across the pond. But here, I’m really influenced by Sway’s old stuff, Kano, also Tinie Tempah.”
What would winning mean to you?
“It would mean loads to me. Doing music, you want to get your sound out there, you want to create things for people to feel, you want people to be happy and feel good through your music. I think the competition is an amazing platform to do that. To even get this far means a lot, but to win would mean everything – anything’s possible to me.”
What did you think of last year’s Rated awards and what did they mean for the scene?
“Yeah I did see them, I’m actually mates with Jevon and he won. It means a lot for the scene, it brought a lot of unity and brought urban music – music that isn’t getting the shine it should through other platforms – to more people’s attention. It’s a great thing for all these artists to finally be put on a pedestal and be celebrated.”
What’s your favourite KA flavour?
“I would say all of them, but I love Pineapple the most.”
