Introducing Finalist #5 – Snowy
Snowy is undoubtedly a big character, as many would tell you. This energy transcends into his music, quickly becoming one of the hardest MCs to come out of the Midlands. Holding it down for Nottingham, Snowy is young, but is already making big moves in the scene. Coming through with a different style, he’s definitely one to keep an eye, more than deserving his spot in the final.

COMING FROM NOTTINGHAM, WOULD YOU SAY YOU FOUND MORE INFLUENCES FROM YOUR CITY OR ELSEWHERE?
At first, yeah, definitely when I was growing up more from Nottingham, but now not as much. We’re running the town now.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE GUILTY PLEASURE?
I’ve got one but it’s a bit too guilty, it’s almost suspect. Joi Lick. It’s a mad beat, it’s smooth. It’s like trap before trap was trap, it’s wavey. The subject matter’s a bit mad but yeah.
WHO ARE YOUR BIGGEST MUSICAL INFLUENCES?
At the minute I’d say my biggest influences are Wiley, Dizzee and Skepta.
WHAT WOULD WINNING MEAN TO YOU?
It would mean that everyone can shut up – that I’m top and nobody can tell me different. It’s Snowy season if I win. It’s Snowy season even if I don’t win, but winning would just affirm it.
WHAT DID YOU THINK OF LAST YEAR’S RATED AWARDS AND WHAT DO YOU THINK THEY MEANT FOR THE SCENE?
I watched it last year and I thought it was sick. It was good because it was finally awards that were completely focused on the scene, rather than just praising three people.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE KA FLAVOUR?
Black Grape definitely.
