UK band Gorillaz have teamed up with London rapper Octavian for their new tune “Friday 13th”, which marks the fourth episode of their Song Machine series.

Octavian has been doing bits in the music scene for a little while now, scooping up the 2019 BBC Music of Sound Award, so it’s only right he came through with another song to solidify his musical achievements by collaborating with the iconic band. The visuals are very Gorillaz-esque as they’ve gone with their classic animated theme while the French-British lyricist joined with his unique voice for the vibey track.

The ongoing Song Machine series first debuted in January this year, and the four-member group have put out three other cold collabs with the likes of New Order’s Peter Hook, Slowthai, rock duo Slaves and Malian star Fatoumata Diawara.

In a statement, drummer Russel Hobbs explained the idea behind their musical instalments, revealing: “Song Machine is a whole new way of doing what we do. Gorillaz breaking the mould because the mould got old.

“World is moving faster than a supercharged particle, so we’ve gotta stay ready to drop. We don’t even know who’s stepping through the studio next. Song Machine feeds on the unknown, runs on pure chaos. So whatever the hell’s coming, we’re primed and ready to produce like there’s no tomorrow. You know, just in case.”
