Forbes have collated an up-to-date list of the highest paid athletes in the world and some of these numbers are staggering.
Whilst some names you’d expect to find on the list are certainly there, there’s also a number of surprising ones.
Cristiano Ronaldo tops the list, earning a whopping £108.7m in the last 12 months, following on from his move to Saudi Arabian club Al Nassar and making him the highest paid athlete in the world.
He’s closely followed by long term rival and World Cup winner Lionel Messi (£103.9m) and rising star Kylian Mbappe (£95.9m) in third.
Legendary basketball player Lebron James (£95.5m) claims the number four spot and Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez is fifth (£87.9m).
Rounding out the rest of the top 10 are golfers Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson, another b-baller in Steph Curry, tennis ace Roger Federer and the iconic Kevin Durant.
Forbes curate the list by accounting for on-pitch earnings – salaries, bonuses, prize money etc – as well as off-field incomes like sponsorships and licensing.
