After another long international break, we see the return of the much loved Premier League, which also means another edition of the GRM Premier League.
Last week saw Jaik finally succumb to defeat at the hands of North London rapper Joe Black, who took home the victory in a 8-4 win.
Giving his football views and predictions this week, we have legendary Mashtown rapper Margs.
The London Fields man is an active Man Utd supporter and is known to have strong opinions on the game, so it was only right to bring him in.
How do you think Man Utd are doing so far this season?
It’s been a decent start, and to be in with a shot is a positive thing. We’d been solid up until the Arsenal game, but that was embarrassing. That was our first real test of the season and we stumbled in those first 20 minutes. To be fair, Arsenal could’ve beaten anyone in that period, but that’s no excuse. To be honest, I’d rather be mid-table than have suffered that against Arsenal, I haven’t heard the end of it. After this, we’ve got a few tough games against Everton and Man City which will also test us, but all in all, it’s been a good start for us.
What are your expectations for Man Utd this season?
I’m looking forward to seeing how we do in the Champions League, with Van Gaal’s history in knockout football. In cup football, you can beat anybody on your day, so I think we could do quite well in Europe. In the league, everyone is stumbling at the moment. If we beat the little teams, we have a chance of challenging. I feel if we were to play Man City or Chelsea tomorrow, we would spin them.
Why did you choose Man Utd?
I don’t know man. When I got into football, I was in a single-parent household, and my mum didn’t like football, so I had to find my own path with it. So around 1991/92 – when the Premiership started – Man Utd were the best team about, so they had the biggest influence on me. They were the team I saw the most on the TV, and their players stood out the most. When I started supporting them, these times I didn’t know they were in Manchester. After all these years of blood, sweat and tears as a Man Utd fan, it’s real, man – no one can take that away from me.
Favourite Man Utd player of all-time?
Rooney, straight up. I just love him, he’s one of the best. Since he’s come to Man Utd, he’s been our man – barring a few seasons when Ronaldo was here. His work when Cristiano was at the club always goes unnoticed, but those two were a mad pairing. People say this and that about Rooney, but when he burst onto the scene, he was one of the best players in the world. Injuries haven’t helped him, but think of what he’s won at the club. Internationally he’s the all-time leading goalscorer, and people underplay that. He’s been England and Man Utd captain, won every trophy, how can you question him?
Messi or Ronaldo?
Messi. It makes a good argument. When I watch old Man Utd with Ronaldo videos and I think “did he really do this?” – we proper had Ronaldo, you know. You see with Messi, though, I don’t know how this guy does it, he just makes everyone around him better. On individual attributes, Ronaldo is probably better, he’s focused so hard on improving his game at every opportunity. But Messi, he looks like he’s just rolled out of bed and ruins man. He has a gift from God, if I was picking a starting XI, I’m picking Messi all day long.
If you could choose one footballer to collab with on a tune?
Rooney, he’d come in with that Croxteth pain, you get me? If it was a cypher, I’d have Ryan Babel, Emmanuel Adebayor, Emmanuel Eboue and Daniel Sturridge. That would be a madness.
Have you got anything dropping soon?
I’m taking a little sabbatical at the moment, but expect me to jump on a few things. But, for now, I’m taking a little break, then I’ll be back with a bang.
