After months of speculation, the Connor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather fight has finally got a confirmed date

The boxing match will take place in Las Vegas on 26th August, it has been reported both men will receive $100million from the blockbuster encounter.

The fight will be contested at light middleweight, scheduled for 12-rounds and the combatants will wear 10-ounce gloves.

After months of speculation both men posted the following on Twitter to confirm the fight:

Yes that is a picture of Mayweather Sr, McGregor is alluding to the fact he is 12 years younger than Mayweather Jr.

Mayweather, who is coming out of retirement for the fight, initially left boxing in 2015 with a record of 49-0. McGregor is the current UFC Lightweight Champion, he last fought in the octagon in November last year.

McGregor does have a boxing background and videos have appeared on-line of him training for the Mayweather fight.

The beef between the two goes back to January 2016 when The Notorious One challenged Money May to a fight after Mayweather claimed that “racism still exists in combat sports” and compared the way he and McGregor were treated in the media.

A few months later, when asked about a potential fight with McGregor, Mayweather said “never compare Conor McGregor to me, it’s a total disrespect.

“I’m an elephant, an elephant don’t beef with ants, elephants are so large they don’t even see ants.”

In response McGregor told Mayweather to “say it to his face.”
