Eight men will face criminal charges in the US over illegal film streaming sites.

The two men behind Jetflicks and iStreamItAll cost film and television studios millions of pounds by illegally ripping over 300,00 individual television episodes and films and hosting them on the sites.

It has also been alleged that some of the content hosted on the sites were not yet released to the public and were leaks.

Users are the site were able to access the content by paying a subscription fee or splashing out hundreds of pounds for a “lifetime account”.

In a statement, the American Department of Justice said, “The two services allegedly offered more television programmes and movies than legitimate streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, and Amazon Prime Video. They used sophisticated computer code to scour global pirate sites for new illegal content to download, process and store the shows, and then make those episodes available on servers in the United States and Canada to subscribers for streaming and/or downloading”.

The eight men face five years in prison and a fine.
