The shortlisted nominees for the 2022 Mercury Prize have been announced!
The twelve nominations for the prestigious award – which celebrates the best album released in the United Kingdom by a British or Irish act – were revealed this morning.
Among this year’s nominees are a range of talented acts such as Little Simz, Kojey Radical and Joy Crookes, who’ll be going up against the likes of Harry Styles, Sam Fender and more.
The winner will be selected by a panel of judges made up of music industry creatives and professionals.
The Mercury Prize is a celebration of the best in British music and acknowledges talent from a range of different genres.
The winner of the Prize will be announced when the awards ceremony takes place on 8th September at Eventim Apollo. The act to scoop up the award will join previous winners such as Dave, Skepta, Ms. Dynamite and more.
“Getting down to twelve albums this year was not easy, simply because there were so many remarkable ones to choose from,” this year’s judges said. “That serves as proof that British and Irish music thrives during unsettled periods in history, with the albums chosen covering everything from imaginative pop to pioneering rap to Cornish language folk-rock.
“We feel that these 12 amazing albums each have something to say artistically and socially, all in their own unique, enriching ways. Now comes the really hard part – choosing only one overall winner’.Â
