Just a day after it was announced Arsenal had made Gunnersaurus redundant, Mesut Özil has now offered to pay the full salary for the mascot.

The Arsenal star made the offer on Twitter, writing: I was so sad that Jerry Quy aka our famous & loyal mascot @Gunnersaurus and integral part of our club was being made redundant after 27 years.”

He added: “As such, I’m offering to reimburse @Arsenal with the full salary of our big green guy as long as I will be an Arsenal player.”

Özil’s generous offer comes after it was announced the man behind Gunnersaurus, Jerry Quy, had been let go by Arsenal after 27 years as a mascot for the club.

Quy’s redundancy was part of Arsenal’s cost-cutting process as the club seeks to deal with the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

However, thanks to Özil, it looks like Quy could be returning to his role as Gunnersaurus sooner than expected!
